July 14, 2008
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of Under Secretary Raymond L. Orbach, it is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Dr. Jeffrey Salmon as the Deputy Director for Resource Management within the Department of Energy’s Office of Science. The appointment is effective July 20, 2008.
Dr. Salmon joined the Department of Energy in March, 2001, as Senior Policy Advisor and Director of Speechwriting to the Secretary. In 2002, he joined the Office of Science as the Chief of Staff to the Director of the Office of Science. He later moved to the newly created office of the Under Secretary for Science as the Associate Under Secretary. In these positions he gained a broad understanding of the Department’s programs and missions and great familiarity with field and headquarters operations in the Office of Science. Prior to coming to the Department of Energy, Dr. Salmon worked on Capitol Hill and in the Department of Defense, the National Defense University, and the private sector. Dr. Salmon received his Ph.D. in World Politics at the Catholic University of America in 1985.
As Deputy Director for Resource Management, Dr. Salmon will be responsible for managing the following offices within the Office of Science: Program Direction and Analysis; Grants and Contracts; Budget; Business Policy and Operations; Human Capital Resources; and Science and Technical Information. As one of three Deputy Directors of the Office of Science, Dr. Salmon will report to the Director of the Office of Science. The position is within the ranks of the U.S. government’s Senior Executive Service (SES).
Please join Under Secretary Orbach and me in welcoming Dr. Salmon to this important position.
Sincerely,
Patricia M. Dehmer
