The Department of Energy Berkeley Site Office is located at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California. The mission of the Berkeley Site Office is to manage and administer DOE's performance-based contract with the University of California for the management and operation of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The Berkeley Site Office supports the Office of Science mission to deliver the remarkable discoveries and scientific tools that transform our understanding of energy and matter and advance the national, economic, and energy security of the United States.

The mission of the Office of Science is to foster, formulate and support forefront basic and applied research programs which advance the science and technology foundations necessary to accomplish Department of Energy missions. The Office of Science is the single largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences in the United States.

The mission of the Department of Energy is to ensure America's security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental, and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions. The Department's strategic goals to achieve the mission are designed to deliver results along four strategic themes: Transformation of the Nation's Energy System, The Science and Engineering Enterprise, National Security; and Management and Operational Excellence.
