The Office of Project Assessment is located at:

Room #D-222
19901 Germantown Road
Germantown, MD 20874

To access the Germantown Facility:

The North Gate of the Germantown facility is at 19901 Germantown Road, Germantown, MD 20874-1290. The North Gate is open 24/7 and all visitors should use this entrance.

Visitors with DOE standard security badges or DOE HSPD-12 badges:

Drive to the North Gate entrance and show your badge to the HQ Protective Force (PF) officer controlling entry. Follow the officer's instructions to parking, building entry, etc. DOE standard security badges can be enrolled into the HQ automated access control system at the badge office, Room B-106, just inside the North Lobby (main) entrance. Such enrollments will be for the duration of the visit. The badge office is normally open 8 AM - 4 PM, M-F.

Visitors without DOE badges:

Not Preannounced: Visitors who are US citizens may drive to the North Gate entrance, provide photo identification such as a drivers license, and provide the name and phone number of the DOE employee who is sponsoring the visit. The HQ PF will contact the sponsor, verify the visit, inspect the visitor's vehicle and direct the visitor to visitor parking and to the North Lobby entrance for visitor badging. This method works, but if the sponsor cannot be contacted, the visitor could be delayed significant amounts of time.

Preannounced: DOE employees and contract employees sponsoring visits by US citizens should facilitate the visitor's entry by preannouncing the visit via e-mail to the facility security manager at least 48 hours in advance. Approved visit requests are forwarded to the HQ PF. Preannounced visitors who are US citizens may drive to the North Gate entrance, provide photo identification such as a drivers license, and indicate that their visit have been pre-announced. The HQ PF will verify the visit preannouncement, inspect the visitor's vehicle and direct the visitor to visitor parking and to the North Lobby entrance for visitor badging. This process is also used in cases of new employees who have not yet received a DOE badge.

Foreign Nationals: Visits by persons who are not US citizens require considerable advance coordination. The requirements of the Foreign Visits and Assignments Program must be met. At HQ, these requirements are implemented in the HQ Facilities Master Security Plan, Section 34. Many factors determine the amount of time approval for such visits may take. It is always best to consult Section 34 and your Program Element's Headquarters Security Officer well in advance of such proposed visits.
