Environment, Safety & Health

Message from the Division Director

I am delighted to share more information about what we do in the Environment, Safety and Health Division in the Office of Science! Our work is important to those we serve and my capable and qualified staff work hard to ensure that our Division delivers high quality, timely and effective work products.

The Accelerator Safety Review, the Radiological Materials Initiative, Directives Reform support, and subject matter expertise in the areas of accelerators; radiation, environmental and fire protection; industrial hygiene; chemical and electrical safety; quality assurance; emergency management and safety data tracking, are only some of the areas of expertise for which the Environment Safety and Health Division is responsible. Division staff has a strong commitment to safety and exhibits this in the variety of policy matters and support areas that we provide. Our hope is that this website serves as a transparent and useful communication forum for the functions within our Division.

I joined the Department of Energy (DOE) from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, where I led their efforts toward developing the regulatory framework for commercial reprocessing facilities. I am very excited in my role here at DOE and look forward to the many contributions I can make toward DOE's and the Office of Science's mission.
