The WVSB Coordinators are ultimately responsible for selecting and inviting participating teams, and strive to preserve fairness of opportunity and geographically diverse representation.  The WVSB Coordinators use the process below to guide team selection. 1) Interested teams contact their RESA coordinator. 2a) If two or fewer teams are interested from a given RESA, those teams receive an automatic invitation to participate in the WVSB Regional. 2b) If more than two teams are interested from a given RESA, the teams compete in a local (RESA level) tournament to rank the teams.  The top two teams receive an invitation to participate, and the third and fourth place winners are recorded for possible selection as alternate participants. 2c) The school with the prior year winning team of the WVSB is awarded an automatic invitation to participate in the current year WVSB.  If one of the top two teams from a RESA competition already received an automatic bid by virtue of a first place finish at the WVSB in the prior year, the third place team from that RESA receives an automatic bid.  3) To fill the field up to the 18 allotted teams, the third place winners from RESA tournaments are selected by WVSB officials in a random drawing.  If the tournament field is incompletely filled after exhausting the pool of third place winners, participants from among the fourth place winners are randomly selected.  4) If the tournament field is incompletely filled after following the above selection process or in case of cancellations less than 5 days prior to the regional event, WVSB Coordinators reserve the right to select teams according to logistical constraints.  Teams so selected for participation will not be permitted to advance to the regional finals, regardless of performance in qualifying rounds.  WVSB Coordinators may also choose to conduct the regional tournament with an incomplete field. 5) In all cases, invitations to participate in the WVSB will come directly from the WVSB Coordinators.
The WVSB Coordinators are ultimately responsible for selecting and inviting participating teams, and strive to preserve fairness of opportunity and geographically diverse representation.  The WVSB Coordinators use the process below to guide team selection
